I’m Bambi, a Cane Corso puppy whose story begins with a price tag. £350.
This wasn’t an adoption fee to Jerry Green Dog Rescue; it was the low asking price I was sold for before they ever knew about me.
Today I’m asking, as a dog lover, will you give £50 today to give a dog like me safety, care, and a second chance this Christmas?
There weren’t any background checks. I moved into a tiny flat without access to a garden. My owner at the time – facing challenges of their own – didn’t know how to care for me.
So, I never got the food I needed, for my bones to grow strong and healthy. I grew hungry and scared. Then one day a kind stranger walked in – my owners relative.
I whimpered in their arms as they freed me from my crate, carefully bathed me and checked over my poorly legs. Frantically they started calling rescue centres – because they couldn’t take me in.
Jerry Green Dog Rescue answered the call…and could offer me a safe place to stay.
Her gentle voice coaxed me into the rescue centre, Beth had set me up with a warm bed, fluffy blankets, and toys.
That night I hid behind that bed, too overwhelmed to sleep. It was so noisy – a chorus of excited adult dogs barking, all desperately waiting for families of their own.
The next morning, I heard a familiar voice calling my name from the doorway. Beth came back!
Instantly she soothed me as she stroked my fur and told me “You’re going to stay with me for a while, Bambi.” So off I went into foster care.
I remember the cold metal of the vet’s table when they examined me. The vet checked my wonky teeth and my trembling legs that point outwards. I kept looking at Beth’s kind eyes for reassurance.
The vet thought that my rice diet caused a deformity which stopped my leg bones from growing properly.
A couple of days later I was put under anaesthetic and had x-rays to check my bones and joints. There was still time to act. But there was no time to waste.
Your compassion makes surgery for a dog like me possible.
Without a community of dog lovers like you, Jerry Green Dog Rescue can’t say “yes” to taking in and caring for neglected dogs like me. Never mind funding the vital surgery than can get a puppy like me comfortably back on all four paws.
Had Jerry Green Dog Rescue not answered that call, I might have faced a future in chronic pain, or worse.
