Every year, hundreds of dogs find themselves at Jerry Geen Dog Rescue in search of a second chance. National Dog Adoption Day is a special occasion highlighting the life-changing difference that giving a rescue dog a safe, loving home can make – both for them and for you.

Charl came to Jerry Green Dog Rescue after his owner, who loved him dearly, sadly passed away. He arrived in our care under heartbreaking circumstances, having been found two months later, after staying loyally by his owner’s side for all that time.  

This gentle soul had been through so much and desperately needed a home where he could finally feel safe, secure and cherished once again. When Charl arrived, he was extremely underweight and frail, his ears crusted and his nose dry from a lack of food, water, and care. Under veterinary care, our team began feeding him small, frequent meals to help his body recover safely.

But it wasn’t just Charl’s physical condition that was difficult to see, it was the sadness that surrounded him. Withdrawn and subdued, Charl showed no interest in play or affection, and spent most of his days quietly sleeping. It was clear that Charl’s greatest struggle was the heartbreak of losing his best friend.  

With the dedication of our welfare team and a loving foster home, Charl slowly regained his confidence and began to heal from the physical and emotional challenges he’d endured. Less than four weeks later, Charl was ready to start a new chapter and was adopted by a wonderful family who could give him all the love he deserved.
