World Animal Day: Why Rescue Dogs Deserve a Second Chance

Every year on 4th October, animal lovers across the globe come together to celebrate World Animal Day. It’s a chance to reflect, take action, and raise awareness for animal rights and welfare.  

For us at Jerry Green Dog Rescue, it’s also the perfect opportunity to shine a light on the wonderful rescue dogs in our care, and to show the different ways you can help transform their lives – not just on this special occasion, but every day of the year.   

First celebrated in 1925, World Animal Day has grown into an international movement that inspires action for animals of all shapes and sizes. It’s a day when animal charities, rescue centres, and communities unite to promote better welfare and celebrate the pure joy that animals bring to our lives.  

As a trusted dog charity in the UK, we celebrate World Animal Day by highlighting the vital work we do every single day – rescuing dogs, rehabilitating them, and finding them safe, loving homes.  

While dogs like Beauty have been lucky to find their forever homes, many are still waiting for their turn.

• Rocco – an energetic 2-year-old Husky cross, ready for his next adventure.  

• Delia – a large but loveable 3-year-old Cane Corso Cross, looking for her best friend.  

• Buster – an 11-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier in search of a perfect retirement home. 

• Louie – A charming and loyal 3-year-old ex-racing Greyhound dreaming of a forever sofa.
